I have been a practioner of birthing with hypnotherapy since 2000, and have had the pleasure of helping hundreds of clients to have amazing birthing experiences, as well as my own! Lilia Brook Spencer, my daughter, was delivered in January 2007. She was born two months early, under difficult circumstances. I was 31 weeks pregnant when I caught a nasty cold that had me vomiting for 11 hours straight. I was taken to the hospital and was rehydrated intervenously. Back at home the next day I was feeling a bit better, but I noticed that my water was releasing slowly. My midwife asked me to meet her at the hospital to check, and sure enough it was my water. My husband and I were flown to Surrey Memorial because of the lack of facilities on the Island.
When we arrived we were informed of many things, but the most shocking was that my birth was to be a c-section, due to the lack of amniotic fluid in my uterus. I said to my doctor that I really wanted to do it naturally and that I was not interested in having a c-section. She responded by telling us that I had no choice because there was zero chance that the baby would be able to turn in a uterus without aminotic fluid. The baby was in the wrong position, and her movement was so restricted that she could only move from side-to-side. The doctor left and I started to cry, and my sweet husband took my hand and said "honey, you don't believe this: remember what you teach in your Invision Your Birth classes. Let's focus inwards and produce this baby ourselves." And that's exactly what we did: we closed our eyes and placed our hands on my belly and began to visualize what we wanted her to do. 15-20 minutes into our visualization, I felt her turn. I opened my eyes and said "honey, did you feel that? We did it. She's in the perfect position!"
The next morning the doctor came in to tell me when the c-section was to happen and I told her that our baby had turned. I asked for another ultrasound to show her, and it showed that she was indeed in the perfect position. I hugged my husband and thanked him for reminding me what I believe in. We were able to hold out on the birthday for ten more days and I then had a beautiful six-hour natural birth, with a great story to tell with it.
I have so many wonderful birthing stories that I would like to share with you, and look forward to the opportunity to meet you at an upcoming course or seminar.
